Canada Research Chair in Water, Urban and Utility Governance
Holder: Kathryn Furlong
The Chair focuses on the challenges faced by municipalities in delivering essential services, in particular water. The Chair is working on projects in Canada, Colombia and the Netherlands.
Canada Research Chair in Asian Studies
Holder: Rodolphe De Koninck
The Chair strives to deepen and expand the analysis of agricultural development in all regions and countries of Southeast Asia.
It also considers the historical and contemporary consequences of these development models, focusing on 11 countries: Burma (Myanmar), Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam, the Philippines, Malaysia, Singapore, Brunei, Indonesia and East Timor (or Timor Leste).
The Chair is attached to UdeM's Centre d'études de l'Asie de l'Est (CÉTASE).
Laboratories and other research bodies
Cold Regions Geomorphology and Geotechnical Laboratory (Geocryolab)
The mission of the Laboratory is to study the dynamic environment of cold regions. Its research themes are:
- Periglacial geomorphology
- Paleoclimate study
- Geotechnology in cold regions and infrastructures
Biogeography Laboratory
The Laboratory studies the consequences of climate change on peat bog biogeochemistry. In particular, it looks at the role of ecosystems in the past, present and future global atmospheric carbon balance.
Laboratory of Environmental Geosimulation (LEDGE)
The Laboratory of Environmental Geosimulation (LEDGE) hosts a research group interested in the study of the dynamics of complex geographic systems. Its research work focuses on developing hybrid approaches to improve spatial simulation.

Transportation geography
A website devoted to transportation geography. This project, developed by a consortium of 5 universities, is intended to promote access to information on this subject.
Commission on Marine Geography
The Commission encourages research into relationships between human activity and the sensitive environment of oceans, seas, rivers and shorelines. Its research themes, from a sustainable development perspective, address the physical geography of seas and coastal zones, marine transportation, ports, exploitation of marine resources, the law of the sea and marine management.
